Artist Statement

When I make pictures, I feel a sense of determination. Most of the time I feel like I'm learning a lot about the camera, the world, and myself. I notice things I usually wouldn't notice, and I remember that information along with small details. It's one of the only times where I feel like I'm actually learning something that matters to me. And it’s one of the only times when I enjoy learning. When I look at other people's pictures, I feel a connection to the photographer. I get inspired and excited looking at the cool ideas people bring to life, and I think to myself, “Wow, I wish I took that photo” or “I want to make a picture like that someday.” That’s how I want people to feel when they look at my photos.

I like to take pictures of my friend Daniel. I get a random burst of inspiration or an idea pops into my head that I'd like to try out. It doesn’t always work out the way I wished, but that’s the part I love, being able to improvise or create something that wasn’t in the blueprint.

I'm still trying to find my style, but mostly my favorite subjects to photograph are people or light, especially when they are together. I like to capture emotion through expressions because I can feel it through the screen.
